In 2012, thirty-three men, women and children became organ donors at OLOL. They gave a second chance at life to 93 people who were waiting on life-saving transplants. Those heroes were also able to give the gift of sight to 40 individuals through corneal transplants.
Following the ceremony, the families of organ donors gathered outside the auditorium to release butterflies in honor of all Silent Heroes. Donor pictures and their stories were on display in the auditorium, then hung in the Critical Care Waiting Area and in the Pediatric Wing.
