Our Lady of the Lake Trauma Center treats patients from Geismar Plant Explosion 06/13/2013
Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center has received 11 patients by ground and air transport related to today’s explosion at the Williams Olefins plant in Geismar, Louisiana. Currently, nine patients are in Fair condition and two patients are in Critical condition. The patients have sustained various injuries including trauma and burn, fractured bones, and neck, back, abdominal and chest injuries.
A decontamination site was put in place to ensure that all patients who were in proximity with the chemical, Ethylene-Propylene-Maleic Anhydride Copolymers, are cleaned and provided the appropriate care.
Our Lady of the Lake’s Trauma Center is prepared to care for these patients and any additional patients that we may receive. The Trauma Center provides access to the highest level of care for the most critical cases and we treat an average of 900 trauma patients per year.
As we continue to minister to the victims of the plant explosion in Geismar – we ask that you take a moment of prayer and reflection. Our Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady sisters are praying for us, our patients and the community during this time of need.
