A state-of-the-art 64-Slice CT scanner was recently
installed in Imaging Services located in the main hospital. CT is a radiological
method which has been used since 1974 to take pictures of certain regions of
your body. Today, CT technology is an indispensable tool in medicine.
CT is used to assist physicians in detecting strokes, tumors, fractures and
even blockages in your heart. The 64-Slice CT scanner can produce a three
dimensional image of the bone, internal organs and vessels within the
body. This technology gives the physician a view of the coronary arteries
without having to introduce a catheter into the heart. OLOL is the only hospital
in our area with this advanced technology.
“The impact of this technology to patients with heart disease is
substantial. Earlier detection of Coronary Artery Disease will lead us to
earlier treatment and intervention if necessary. CT is a safe, quick and
effective way to screen patients with suspected heart disease. Earlier
detection of Coronary Artery Disease will lead us to earlier treatment and
intervention, said Jenny Hussy, Divisional Director, Cardiovascular and Imaging
Services.”
