Minimally Invasive Surgery
Surgeries with large incisions require longer recovery times and put more stress on the body. At Our Lady of the Lake, we’re replacing many traditional types of operations with minimally invasive procedures. In fact, we’re pioneering the use of the TORS procedure to remove tumors of the mouth and throat and are the only hospital in the area to offer the TEM procedure for rectal tumors and cancer.
Why give you access to techniques that involve less pain and allow for faster recovery times? Because we believe healthcare works best when it’s constantly striving to be better.
Why Minimally Invasive?
Minimally invasive surgery, also called laparoscopicsurgery, is when doctors make a small incision then insert a tube with a camera and tiny tools to help them perform surgery. Minimally invasive surgeries disturb fewer blood vessels and tissue, leave smaller scars, and allow for shorter hospital stays and faster recovery time.
Doctors perform minimally invasive surgeries using a variety of instruments, including some robotic tools to help them better see and work within the area of the procedure.
To help you get back to living your life more quickly, Our Lady of the Lake uses the most advanced technology. One example is the da Vinci Surgical System®, a sophisticated robotic platform with capabilities like 360-degree visualization. Our surgeons use this instrument for complex surgeries including:
The da Vinci system® disturbs less tissue surrounding the area being worked on, minimizing and controlling bleeding. In addition, the robot's 3D vision shows surgical teams even more details, helping ensure a better outcome for patients.
