Pastoral Care

As a Catholic hospital, Our Lady of the Lake strives to minister to the spiritual side of all patients as well as to offer quality medical care. The staff of interdenominational chaplains in the Pastoral Services Department is trained to assist patients and their families with the spiritual problems of illness and to provide the appropriate prayers, sacraments, counseling and spiritual presence.

Patients and their families, regardless of religious denomination, may request a visit from a member of the Pastoral Care team at any time. The Pastoral Care Office is located on the first floor near the Chapel. Patients may reach a chaplain by dialing 5-8896 during the day or the evening, or by in asking their nurse to page the chaplain on call. You can reach Pastoral Care from outside the hospital by dialing (225) 765-8896.

Communion is offered daily to patients who wish it. Visiting clergy from all denominations are encouraged to minister to patients from their congregations.

As a special service to local churches, the Pastoral Care department has a file the religious preference expressed by patients at the time of their admission. Unless instructed otherwise, the Pastoral Care Department provides this information upon request to local visiting clergy.
